Travis Head's record for the fastest fifty by a Sunrisers Hyderabad player only lasted for 20 balls. Abhishek Sharma quickly reached a half-century in just 16 balls, helping set a new high score in the match against the Mumbai Indians in Match No.8 of the Indian Premier League 2024 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday. Despite Mumbai's efforts, including Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma's strong start, Heinrich Klaasen's impressive 80 runs off 34 balls led Sunrisers Hyderabad to score 277-3 in 20 overs.

Mumbai Indians, tasked with chasing down the highest total in IPL history at Hyderabad, started well with Kishan and Sharma adding 56 runs for the first wicket. However, despite Tilak Varma's quick 64 off 34 balls, Mumbai fell short, managing only 246-5 in their 20 overs, losing by 31 runs.

In the match, debutant Kwena Maphaka opened the bowling attack for Mumbai Indians, replacing skipper Hardik Pandya and premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Sunrisers Hyderabad's Head welcomed the 17-year-old with 22 runs in his second over. Pandya, who replaced Maphaka, dismissed Mayank Agarwal for 11 off 13 balls in the fourth over. Mumbai made only one change to their playing XI against Sunrisers Hyderabad, with Travis Head replacing Marco Jansen, as revealed by skipper Hardik after winning the toss.

Before Matchday 8 of IPL 2024, both Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their opening matches to their respective opponents, but in different manners. While Sunrisers Hyderabad nearly chased down Kolkata Knight Riders' imposing total, Mumbai Indians failed to chase down 43 runs in the last five overs, resulting in a six-run defeat.
